Hello, everyone! Thank you for supporting our school Book Fair and thank you for the books donated to our class. The kids and I are already enjoying them. A big thank you to all the parents who volunteered to work the Book Fair, too.
Last Thursday, we had our culminating Social Studies project with Ms. Megan, our student teacher from the UCLA Arts Bridge Program. Ms. Megan and the kids created a "living museum" of People Who Made a Difference. Our fifth grade reading buddies, another second grade class, and a first grade class came through our museum to see what we had learned about people who stood up for what they believed in from the American Revolution, and the Underground Railroad, to Women's Right to Vote, and the Civil Rights Movement. The kids did a fantastic job and learned so much. We will miss our weekly class with Ms. Megan.
In Math, we will continue working with 3-digit numbers and place value to 1,000. In Language Arts, there will be no Spelling/Vocabulary words this week. We will focus on writing paragraphs and friendly letters as well as reading fluency. Over Winter Break, I am not assigning mandatory homework, however, I would like kids to read. I cannot stress enough the importance of reading. I will send home a list of other suggestions, too. You can also download the list here and book report forms, too.

Our annual Winter Holiday Program will be this Wednesday, Dec. 18. Several grades are scheduled to perform. It will be a great show. We are telling second graders to wear something special that day if they wish, something like what they would wear on school picture day. It's also fun to wear winter hats, scarves, etc. for the Winter Holiday theme. There are three performances and the 2nd grade will perform at the first two. Arrive early to get a good seat and don't forget your camera.

Cookie Decorating Fun! - THU 12/19 (following our holiday party)
![Picture](/uploads/5/4/7/0/5470245/1387129178.png)
After our Winter Holiday potluck party, the kids are going to decorate holiday cookies for their 5th grade Reading Buddies (and for themselves to enjoy, too!). So, if you are coming to our party, we invite you to stay for cookie decorating afterwards if you like. It will be gooey fun and we could definitely use some grown-up help. We welcome any cookie decorating stuff you'd like to share, too. I ordered snowman and star-shaped sugar cookies from Venice Bakery for the kids to decorate (I have tried in years past to bake sugar cookies and they never come out quite right). If anyone one would like to bring sugar cookies, the more the merrier. Thanks so much! The kids are very excited about this.
